For 20 years, Tara has had the privilege of representing individuals in a wide range of legal matters, with particular experience handling complex adoption, personal injury, and civil litigation matters. Throughout her career, she has been fortunate to build lasting relationships with her clients and to earn the trust of fellow attorneys who regularly refer clients and complex matters to her. She considers those referrals one of the greatest compliments she can receive as an attorney. 

As a Partner at Tauber Law Offices, Tara’s practice includes Adoption, Personal Injury, Family and Juvenile Law, School Law, Estate Planning, Probate, Civil Litigation, and Real Estate.

Adoption holds a particularly special place in her practice. As an adoptive mother herself, Tara understands the adoption process not only as an attorney, but also as a parent. She represents families in private adoptions, Department of Child Services adoptions, step-parent adoptions, agency adoptions, and adult adoptions. Her own experience has given her a unique appreciation for the emotions and complexities involved in adoption, as well as tremendous respect for both adoptive families and birth parents.

Tara’s personal injury practice has included the representation of clients and families in complex and catastrophic injury and wrongful death cases. Over the course of her career, she has handled matters involving traumatic brain injuries, amputations, complex commercial truck crashes, and medical malpractice, including a case involving an airway fire during surgery. She has also represented families in wrongful death cases arising from criminal acts. These cases often involve complicated medical, factual, and legal issues, and she approaches each one with thorough preparation, careful attention to detail, and an understanding of the profound impact a serious injury or loss can have on an entire family.

Before becoming an attorney, Tara was an elementary school teacher, and that experience continues to influence the way she practices law today. Whether she is handling a family or juvenile matter, a school law issue, or another case involving children, she remains mindful of how legal decisions affect children and families long after a case has ended.

Tara was born in Hammond, Indiana, and graduated from Highland High School in 1993. She graduated magna cum laude from Valparaiso University in 1997 with a B.S. in Elementary Education. After teaching for six years at Washington Elementary School in East Chicago and Homan Elementary School in Schererville, she attended Valparaiso University School of Law, where she earned her J.D. in 2006.

Tara is admitted to practice before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit and the U.S. District Courts for the Northern and Southern Districts of Indiana, as well as all Indiana state courts. She is a member of the Indiana Bar Association, the Lake County Bar Association, the Indiana Council of School Attorneys, the Council of School Attorneys, and the Million Dollar and Multi-Million Dollar Advocates Forums.

Tara lives in Crown Point with her husband, Doug, and their daughter. Outside of the office, she enjoys traveling, gardening, and most importantly, spending time with her family.
